A wild venue search for an October 2011 TWB couple (more on that to come...!) brought me to Colonial Dames last Saturday. I was there in the early afternoon and the catering staff was setting up for a wedding later that day. While I was being whisked around the venue, I spotted this beauty in the corner of the upstairs ballroom.
When the venue coordinator told me that a friend of the bride and groom baked this, I knew I had to try and find the genius that whipped up this lovely little confectionery specimen. (Yes, that is seven different colored layers of cake with buttercream in between, in case you couldn't tell.)
Turns out this is the work of Katie Lanciano's Tinkerkate. Katie is based in Philadelphia and, along with churning out some great cakes, provides all sorts of graphic design and art services. Be sure to check out Tinkerkate to see a sampling of Katie's work. But for some more baked lovelies, just scroll on down.

Oh my goodness! I LOVE that first cake! I am a wedding planner in NJ, and seriously must contact her... I'm ALWAYS looking for great cake artists!
