Spotted: The Sanderling

It's beach week for the Two Wedding Belles and Erin is on location in Corolla, North Carolina.

Yesterday morning I had the privilege of visiting The Sanderling, a full service resort, spa, and wedding venue in Duck, NC.  Anyone who has visited the Outer Banks is familiar with its laid back, windswept vibe.  The Sanderling, named for the marine bird, is perfect for the couple looking for a casual but elegant beach wedding.  It's located just north of Duck, NC and the cedar shake exterior in the classic seaside shade of driftwood exudes coastal charm and an easy elegance.  Wendy Murray, one of the resort's two onsite event coordinators was kind enough to give me a tour.  Thanks Wendy!

The resort has several ceremony options.  Couples interested in a true beach wedding can say their vows in the ocean breeze just steps from the resort.

The oceanside lawn or deck are also available for couples looking for total privacy, or just the option to marry at the beach without all the sand between your toes.

For the reception, brides can choose between the indoor locations at the ocean side conference center or take advantage of what is, in this Belles' opinion, the resort's showstopper - the sound side tented pavilion.  The semi-permanent (open from May-October) tent can seat 65 guests with an additional tented option for seating a large party of up to 225.  The sound side of the Outer Banks has views of the sunset, and reception tent takes full advantage with a gazebo at the end of a pier.  Wendy told me that she has seen brides use the gazebo for everything from a cozy cushioned lounge to a cigar bar.  Even without adornment, it makes a great photo-op, or a spot to steal away a few quiet moments with your new husband.

With it's four diamond restaurant, The Left Bank, The Sanderling offers a bevy of menu choices, allowing couples to choose a la carte options for seated dinners (according to Wendy, the duet plates are their most popular) or action stations for  food lovers who crave variety.

Small enough to feel intimate, but large enough to offer all the amenities anyone could need, the Sanderling has several lodging options including guest rooms inside the resort and three, four, or five bedroom villas with full kitchens and laundry facilities.  Sure, I'm already married, but is 6 months too soon to think about a vow renewal??
