Eyes on the Bride: Michelle T.

I first learned a bit about today's bride-to-be and her wedding plans when we met over a year ago during a day full of tree planting and weed trimming in Fairmount Park. As if there were any doubt before that little green thumbed adventure, there's definitely a reason this is a wedding blog and not a gardening one. (Is there even a chance any of those trees are still standing?) So to get back to weddings now...

Michelle agreed to give us a peek at the details for her and Kevin's upcoming May wedding, so read on to find out just what they have planned.

Bride's Name, Age, Occupation -- Michelle Thurstlic, 31, Attorney

Groom's Name, Age, Occupation -- Kevin O'Neill, 26, Law Student

City of Residence -- Glen Mills, PA

Wedding Location -- The Yellow House of Willowdale (ceremony & reception), Kennett Square, PA

How you met -- Kevin and I initially met during the summer of 2007 while I was working for the Delaware County District Attorney's Office and Kevin was interning for one of the county's criminal judges. At the end of the summer, the judge's staff told me that I was all Kevin would talk about when court was not in session. Kevin says that he had a huge crush on me and tried to talk to me a few times, but that I was all business.

A couple of months after his internship was over, we ended up in the same bar one night in West Chester. Apparently I embarassed him in front of all of his friends by coming right out and saying "I heard you had a crush on me last summer." He got my number that night and we started dating within the month.

How long you've dated -- Together 4 years (engaged for 2)

How he proposed -- Kevin and I had plans to go out and celebrate the end of finals of his first year of law school. When he came to pick me up, however, Kevin presented me with a photo album filled with pictures from our time together. He had written little notes along with each photo saying different things he loves about me. When I got to the last photo, the caption was "will you marry me?" and when I looked up, Kevin was down on one knee with the ring. I was overwhelmed, but of course I said yes. Kevin then suprised me again by telling me that our families and friends were waiting at the bar/restaurant that we had planned to go out to. It was extra special to be able to share our happiness with everyone right away.

Wedding colors/theme -- Navy blue, kelly green, and white

Bridesmaids' dresses info -- J. Crew silk taffeta in Pacific Blue (they're wearing individual styles)

Best part of planning -- Laughing with Kevin over the ridiculousness of it all.

Worst part of planning -- Trying to get everyone on the same page.

Most surprising part of planning -- That Kevin's better at it than I am. Everytime I ask him to take something on, he's gotten it done on the first shot. I've agonized over every vendor and decision.

Favorite vendor so far -- Tie between our venue (The Yellow House of Willowdale--the wedding coordinator is just so great) and photographer (Hoffer Photography).

Places you registered -- Bed, Bath & Beyond and Pottery Barn

Any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) plans -- A lot of the decorations. The ceremony and reception are outdoors underneath a tent, which we're planning to decorate with bistro lights. We're also planning to use chalkboards to display seating arrangements and the menu for the buffet.

Honeymoon Location -- Undecided. Kevin is graduating law school a week before our wedding, and right afterwards will have to jump into intensive studying for the bar exam, which is at the end of July. We're planning to take our honeymoon in the fall, when he's finished, and are weighing France (all over), Argentina, or a road trip up the California coast.

Michelle's color scheme is one of my all-time favorites, and the venue sounds perfect for a May wedding, so I can't wait to see photos of how it all comes together. And those honeymoon options? Eyes on the Bride: Julia A.

I'm very excited to have Julia here to talk about her Labor Day weekend wedding and all the planning that's going into the day. I am a frequent visitor to Julia's blog, Lemons & Loafers, so it's alot of fun to have her hop on over to TWB for the day. So Julia...take it away!

Bride's Name, Age, Occupation – Julia, 26. I work in marketing at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I am also a Health Coach and Fashion Consultant at Lemons & Loafers.

Groom's Name, Age, Occupation – Anel, 25. Anel is an incredible photographer (Adz Photos) and personal trainer. He is also a volunteer firefighter in his spare time.

City of Residence – New York City.

Wedding Location – Portsmouth, RI at a gorgeous and romantic estate and grounds on the water. It’s incredible. I cried when I first saw it!

How you met – At work. We both worked at Integrative Nutrition, a holistic health school where I still work. Anel saw me during an interview and walked past 6 or 7 times in the hour so he could look at me again. We became fast friends and that bloomed into a relationship. I had to tell our boss we were dating, so I waited for the staff holiday party 2 years ago and made sure he had a few glasses of wine first!

How long you've dated – We have been dating for 2.5 years.

How he proposed – This is quite a story. Anel proposed on my birthday at midnight on a quiet bench on the Seine river overlooking the sparking Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It was too good to be true! You can read the whole story here.

Wedding colors/theme – Our colors are bright pink, peach, and bright yellow. The bridesmaids are wearing beautifully bright yellow and the groomsmen will be wearing navy blazers, khakis, and Vineyard Vines ties in true Rhode Island form. We want the whole wedding to be preppy and classic with a little bit of whimsical thrown in.

Bridesmaids' dresses info – They are wearing yellow Alfred Sung dresses that have pockets. All of my bridesmaids are different heights and shapes and somehow it looks good on all of them. I’ll definitely be borrowing my sister’s after the wedding!

Best part of planning – Buying a wedding dress. I tried on over 20 dresses and when I found the right one, I just knew! There were lots of tears and it made me finally feel like a real bride. I could actually picture walking down the aisle with Anel at the other end.

Worst part of planning – Trying to stay within our budget. I had these grandiose ideas of what I wanted our wedding to look like but then I realized that everything has a price, and for weddings, the price is generally pretty high. It’s been quite a challenge but I’m very happy with all of our decisions so far.

Most surprising part of planning – That Anel wants to be so involved! I love that he cares about the décor, invitations, and what colors are featured so much. It’s nice to know that this wedding is just as important to him as it is to me.

Favorite vendor so far – I absolutely adore all of my vendors but I think that my favorite people to work with so far have been my friend Erin who designed our save-the-dates and is also on board to design our invitations, table cards, menus, and all other printed material for the big day, and Kate, our adorable photographer. Erin is always so positively up beat and comes up with the most gorgeous designs. Kate is funny and sweet the most talented wedding photographers that I have ever seen. Places you registered – Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Sur La Table. We went for classic pieces that will never go out of style. I cannot wait for all of our red Le Creuset pieces to arrive!

Any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) plans – I don’t have any patience or talent for DIY so not yet. I’m turning to many talented Etsy artists to do this for me!

Honeymoon Location – We are honeymooning on the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy. We can hardly wait for a week of the beach, Italian food, good wine, and lots of relaxation. Then we’re off to Bosnia to have another celebration with Anel’s family there.

Eyes on the Bride: Cris S. {Part 2}

Guess who's back...back again...Cris is back...tell a friend...now that our Wednesday morning song break is over, it's time to turn it over one more time so Cris can walk us through her 2012 Texas wedding. Remember that these are just some of the details, as Cris already gave us the lowdown on her first round of nuptials last week. Wedding Location – Our home in the Texas Hill Country (check out how we’re remodeling it for The Big Day: http://www.atno64.com).

Wedding colors/theme – Upscale Picnic (like the kind that my grandma used to host in her gorgeous backyard during the summer) and lots of blues, greens, reds, and pinks.

Bridesmaids' dresses info – I’m letting them pick any dress they want as long as it’s a jewel blue color. They LOVE this and have already shown me several options. (I think they’re excited to pick something from their closet or find a dress that they’ll actually wear again).

Best part of planning – Seeing amazing ideas from other weddings and trying to figure out how to do them cheaper and/or with my own spin on the idea.

Worst part of planning – Trying to nail down the guest list – this sucks to a spectacular degree.

Most surprising part of planning – How many people try to get you to use their vendor/friend/services. I’m still trying to figure out a tactful way to say no. (Funny story, one woman was SO insistent that I use her cake lady – even though she had no clue what style of cake I wanted, how much my budget was, or that I had already booked a cake vendor. Sheesh!)

Favorite vendor so far – My photographer, Miranda Laine Photography. The photography was SO important me that I used a whopping 1/3 of my budget toward it and booked her within weeks of getting married. Miranda is everything I was hoping for in a photographer and was SO amazing during the interview process that I just knew she was the vendor for me (you can read more about how I chose my photographer here.

Any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) plans – Lots! I’m blessed to have come from a very hands-on, crafty family, so I’m planning on making tons of the décor for my wedding. (I’m also really lucky and my best friend/matron of honor lives close by and loves helping out with this kind of stuff). So far I’ve planned: a fabric/flower streamer thing for the ceremony alter, pallet tables for the reception, tree stump benches for the ceremony seating, the ring pillow, a quilt for the DIY photobooth backdrop, some costume bits for a kid’s costume box, the flower girl dresses, possibly the junior bridesmaid dresses, all of my invitations (and assorted paper goods), and on and on….

Honeymoon Location – We’re toying with going to the United Kingdom (The Boy was stationed there in the mid-80’s and wasn’t allowed to go to Ireland then + he loved it and wants to go back for a visit), Greece (we can score a killer deal on an apartment right on the beach [thank you, assorted military/veterans vacation clubs]), or New Orleans (if we’re low on fundage – we’d love to support tourism there after everything they’ve been through in last few years).

Eyes on the Bride: Cris S. {Part 1}

The next lovely lady to step right up and play our little Eyes On The Bride game is unlike any other we've had visit us before. Cris from Kiss My Tulle had a last minute wedding earlier this year (she explains it all below), and is still planning a wedding for 2012. So she's sort of a mix of a newlywed and a bride-to-be, and offers a pretty unique take on this whole wedding planning business. On top of all that, her blog is a hilarious read, so if you don't yet, you should start reading it on the regular. Cris even let me write a little something on there a while back.

Cris is here today to share details about her Alaska nuptials, and will be back next week to dish about her upcoming Texas wedding. Sure, we're sort of fusing a little Eyes on The Bride with a bit of Notes from a Newlywed in this case, but hey, we've never been sticklers for following rules here at TWB. Why start now, right?

Bride's Name, Age, Occupation – Cris Stone, 33, Professional Blogger (http://www.kissmytulle.com) and Graphic Designer/Website Designer (http://www.crisstone.com)

Groom's Name, Age, Occupation – The Boy, 44, High Voltage Electrician and Retired Air Force Civil Engineer

City of Residence – Hill Country (San Antonio), Texas

Wedding Location – Salcha Fairgrounds in Salcha, Alaska (my hometown). This was a simple civil ceremony planned in three days. See, The Boy and I got engaged in January of 2011 and planned (and paid for!) a May 2012 wedding – then my dad was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer in July. He was given only 30 days to live so The Boy and I rushed up to Alaska to be with him. While we were there, the diagnosis became worse and he was really upset that he might die before seeing us get married. So, on Monday we applied for a marriage license, on Tuesday we posted on Facebook that we’d be getting married on Friday (after the mandatory three day waiting period), and then did a quickie ceremony after people got off work on Friday. After the ceremony, we had a potluck “reception” (read more on doing a potluck reception here) and I danced to Trace Adkins “Then They Do” with my dad. None of this was the way that I had planned or even wanted it to be but I wouldn’t change it for the world. You can read more about our decision here.

How you met – I was helping my parents remodel a rental for this guy who worked with my dad (The Boy). I was bored out of my mind living/working with my parents, he noticed, and asked me out for dinner (at The Cookie Jar) and dancing (at The Silver Spur). We had a great time and have been inseparable ever since.

How long you've dated – 6 years - since December of 2005.

How he proposed – Ummmm, in bed. And then I didn’t say yes until 24 hours later – via a text message. We are SO romantic…(you can read more about it here).

Wedding colors/theme – Whatever we had at our disposal – it ended up being blue, green, and red! I had a green cardigan (that I wore over a simple white cotton sundress), The Boy bought a blue shirt at a thrift store, and we used my dad’s signature red bandanas to wrap the bouquets.

Bridesmaids' dresses info – The bridesmaids were my little sister (10) and my niece (10) and my maid-of-honor was my niece (17). I told them to pick anything from their closets that was blue, red, or green. My maid-of-honor was so excited to be asked that she bought a new dress from her work (Old Navy) and wore a matching cardigan from her closet. My sister decided that the little girls needed to match so she bought them and the flower girl (my great-niece) cute pink and red sundresses from the clearance section at Wal-Mart.

Best part of planning – Writing our entire wedding ceremony myself the night before the wedding (and crying a little with my sister when she read them with me). Also, my dad performed the ceremony and that? Was the best thing ever.

Worst part of planning – All the paperwork involved in applying for the license, getting the license, and getting a marriage commissioner (my dad) approved for the ceremony. I don’t like errands.

Most surprising part of planning – How nothing else matters except the getting married part. My mom and sister ended up making this wedding their wedding (they steamrolled over me about bridesmaid dresses, the food, the decorations, etc.) but nothing, NOTHING, mattered in the end because I was married to my love by my sweet daddy.

Favorite vendor so far – Out of the blue, a very sweet girl called me and offered to photograph our civil ceremony for free. I had gone to elementary school with her husband and her in-laws still lived in Salcha. She had heard about my dad and our decision to get married and just wanted to help out. Floored does not even begin to express it! Amber Westerlund (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=615411520) did a good job and I’m thrilled that I have good-quality photos of that day (and a video!).

Places you registered – Target (our “big box/accessible to everyone” store), Crate & Barrel (our “mid-level, most of our kitchen stuff is from here” store), Pottery Barn (our “higher end, investment pieces” store), and Deposit a Gift (our “tastefully asking for cash, please” website). Ultimately though, we asked people to just bring a dish to share for the potluck reception – some people did give us cash and gift cards though (which was nice - no hauling stuff back to Texas and paying a luggage fee!).

Any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) plans – A few, my family is made up of crafty people so not having any DIY projects for the wedding was not going to happen (plus, it was a nice way to keep everyone’s mind off my dad’s illness). Most of the projects were done the night before with whatever we happened to have lying around my sister’s house.

Honeymoon Location – You’re going to die. Our honeymoon consisted of the drive-through at Taco Bell at midnight and then, because I had to pee and it was the only thing open, the meal was eaten in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. After that, we headed back to my sister’s house (where we had been staying) and spent the night in my niece’s room because we had to be up at 9AM the next morning for a work party at my parents’ house. The tacos were tasty though….

Eyes on the Bride: Shardi Y.

Are all you TWBers out there familiar with Shardi from The Blushing Bride? She's planning a 2012 wedding and blogging about it all along the way. I'm happy to have Shardi here today as she shares a bit about her wedding inspiration and DIY plans.

Bride’s name, age, occupation: Shardi Youngblutt, 24, writer for B&Y Advertising.

Groom’s name, age, occupation: Brandt Carroll, 23, student at IU.

City of residence: Fort Wayne, IN.

Wedding location: Saint Vincent’s ­­– a big, beautiful Catholic church in Fort Wayne. I’m not Catholic, but my fiancé is. The reception is at a place called Yolo. It’s a cutting edge reception hall that’s very urban and different.

How you met: Brandt and I went to high school together. We didn’t really know each other in high school though, because he’s a grade below me. It’s not cool to fraternize with the underclassmen, of course! Haha. We also happen to live right down the street from each other. I like to think that I’m marrying the neighbor boy. We have all the same friends, so it was just a matter of time before we decided to get to know one another.

How long you’ve dated: We’ve been together for about 3 ½ years. And we’ve been engaged now for about 7 months. The time sure flies!

How he proposed: We were on a vacation in Gatlinburg, TN actually. We went on a beautiful hike on Saint Patrick’s Day that went way up into the mountains. He was super weird and nervous the entire time (I now know why!) and on the way back down, we stopped at this beautiful little clearing. He held my hand, slipped the ring into my palm and got down on one knee. I like to think that this is exactly how Snow White would be proposed to – in the wilderness, in a beautiful clearing with the sun shining down on both of us. Beautiful :)

Wedding colors/theme: We are getting married September 29, 2012. So, I want the wedding to feel like autumn without the usual fall décor (no pumpkins, leaves, orange). I’ve chosen a palette of coral, raspberry, lime & plum. It’s rich and yummy. I am also planning on having lots of candles and romantic lighting, “stick” centerpieces, and lots of bright, floral details. ***TWB NOTE: Shardi's inspiration board is directly below, and you can read even more details about it here.***

Bridesmaid’s dresses: I’m not 100% sure yet. But, I definitely have a top contender. Coralie Beatrix makes these beautiful wrap dresses that can be worn dozens of ways! I’m definitely leaning towards using them because I would love for all my girls to be able to wear their dresses differently, in a style that flatters them the most. They’re such a high quality product, and so much fun to use! They’re also very affordable, which I love.

Best part of planning: Being able to look at dozens and dozens of pictures of beautiful weddings every day. Every time I see something I love, it just makes me so excited. I have a million ideas running around in my head and being able to make those visions a reality is definitely exciting.

Worst part of planning: The to-do lists. Sometimes when I look at the list of all the things I need to get done, I just want to quit. Or scream. Whichever comes first.

Most surprising part of planning: I never realized how much I love weddings. Before I got engaged, I would never have thought of myself as a “wedding” person. But now I have a full-fledged passion for it. I love meeting other brides and members of the wedding community. It’s full of so many wonderful people and I love every minute of it.

Favorite vendor so far: Coralie Beatrix. Make sure you check out her wrap dresses. They are a-mazing.

DIY plans: I have all sorts. I’m definitely a craft gal, so I want to make so many different things! I actually have to edit down all my ideas so I don’t end up with a thousand different things I’m committed to that I don’t have time to do. I am definitely going to be making all of my centerpieces. Not exactly sure what they will look like yet though. I definitely plan on making table number and escort cards (not sure what they will look like yet either.) I have already made Will You Be My Bridesmaid cards that turned out great!

Eyes on the Bride: Annie M.

This next bride is a very good friend of TWB. Annie and I have been friends since 6th grade (luckily photos from that era are not digital/not easily shared on this blog...phew) and I'm so excited to see her become a married lady on Friday. Annie took the time during an airport delay in the midst of her Vegas bachelorette weekend (another thing that most definitely will NOT be posted here...) to share the following details with us.

How he proposed -- On my 27th birthday at a romantic dinner in CT after flying on the trapeze in NYC.

Wedding colors/theme -- Theme: romantic elegance. Colors: Eggplant and champagne.

Best part of planning -- Planning a big party for all our family and friends to celebrate the fact that we made it from high school!

Worst part of planning -- The hardest thing when planning such a big wedding is trying to make sure everyone is happy with the final product while also making sure it represents us as a couple.

Most surprising part of planning -- How helpful and involved Matt is! He has made a lot of the planning decisions including favors and flowers!

Favorite vendor so far -- Our florist, Artie D'Alessio from Creative Concepts at the Surf Club. He is so down to earth and made choosing floral arrangements easy!

Any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) plans -- We made homemade wine for our wedding favors and bottled it ourselves.

Honeymoon Location -- Maui and Oahu.

Eyes on the Bride: Nicole E.

Some of you may already be familiar with this next featured bride-to-be, as Nicole is the heart and soul behind the blog Big Day for $10K. Since her upcoming September wedding is now quickly approaching, we thought we'd reach out and ask Nicole to share just a few of her wedding details with us here. Lucky for us, she agreed!

How you met -- We met my (Nicole) first night of college. He was a senior, I was a freshman and we had a mutual friend. I thought nothing of it... at all! Little did I know that he spent the next almost two years mustering up the cojones to ask me out!

How long you've dated -- A little over 5 years

How he proposed -- This past Easter, before my whole family came over for lunch, Dan made me go on an Easter Egg hunt through our living room, dining room and kitchen. The "last" egg (which I found first and was told to ignore) had the ring in it. :) I was complaining that he was making me leave the kitchen - I had to cook, people were coming over!

Wedding colors/theme -- Rustic, casual. Bridesmaids will be in black, groomsmen in grey tuxes with black ties. Flowers and accents will be mustard yellow, orange, teal and coral.

Bridesmaids' dresses info -- Strapless sweetheart pencil dresses, knee length. They're black eyelet lace and so cute! They'll be wearing flat gold gladiator sandals.

Best part of planning -- Being just about done! :)

Worst part of planning -- The guest list. I should have given both sides a strict number of allowed guests...we are currently over capacity and trying to shave down the list. Really, this has been the only stressful thing about the process!

Most surprising part of planning -- Dan has opinions! Who knew!? Aside from that, no real surprises, just enjoying being almost there!

Any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) plans -- We will be decorating the whole venue ourselves - with the collection of vases, mason jars and milk glass that we've amassed over the past few months, I will be doing our flowers, and we will have a ton of DIY touches (including personalized mason jar name cards/drinking glasses)!

Honeymoon Location -- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (CANNOT WAIT!)
